The Secretariat for the Evaluation of Public Policies, Planning, Energy and Lottery (SECAP), Brazil’s gambling regulator, has officialised a series of changes in Lotofácil’s operations.
The ordinance was signed by SECAP Undersecretary Waldir Marques and was published this week in Brazil’s Official Gazette.
The changes introduce daily draws from Monday to Saturday, a new “Final Zero” contest and an increase on the number of multiple bets to 19 and 20. Caixa Econômica Federal will be in charge of setting the date of the first draw, according to BNL Data.
Before setting a launch date, Caixa must allow the development of a new institutional advertising campaign to describe the new structure and a minimum period to adapt the operational procedures in the computerized systems used in the lottery processes.
According to a Caixa analysis, an increase in accumulated and total daily prizes is expected, which is estimated to have a positive impact on the commission payment of lottery tickets and a 25,6% increase in ticket sales revenue.
Currently, Lotofácil draws take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm. Although the Caixa study expected that the change would not hurt other game revenues, an analysis presented by the Vice President of the Operating Agent argued that there are risks of market cannibalization.
In addition, the study revealed that these changes will generate greater resources and will attract more people to the lotteries.
Earlier this week, Caixa announced that Brazil’s Lotería Federal will resume on July 4, nearly four months after the activity stopped due to the health emergency. Draws will only be held on Saturdays, while those that used to take place on Wednesdays will return on September 23.
