National Lottery hails role of players in raising crucial funding

A funded initiative by the National Lottery will see players across the country receive a ‘chorus of thank yous’ as frontline projects and organisations are set to show their appreciation for the financial support received by the lottery during the COVID-19 crisis.

Thanks to National Lottery players, up to £600m will be used to support charities and organisations affected by the unprecedented impact of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK.

On average, £30m is raised every week by those playing the National Lottery for charitable  projects across the country. The money has been and will continue to be distributed to charities and local voluntary organisations over the next few months to help support people through the COVID-19 crisis.

Such projects benefiting from the charitable donations include food banks, as well as organisations that combat loneliness and isolation, care for the elderly and initiatives that support mental and physical health in the community.

Keith Moor, Chief Marketing Officer at Camelot, said: “We’re delighted to launch our latest campaign – in partnership with the National Lottery distributors who are doing an exceptional job in getting funding to the people and projects who need it most during the coronavirus crisis. The idea is to say ‘thank you’ to National Lottery players who are helping to fund millions of acts of kindness.

“There’s tremendous work going on every day all across the UK, and we’re providing a glimpse of all of these efforts with this campaign – by showcasing projects that are receiving support from existing National Lottery funding and the special, repurposed, £600M COVID-19 funding.

“National Lottery players have made all of these projects possible, and what better way to thank them than from the actual projects and organisations themselves. They’re all doing fantastic work, and we’re incredibly grateful that they’ve taken the time out to help us say thanks for the support of National Lottery players. With the TV ad – and the campaign as a whole – players can see the good that they’re doing by buying a National Lottery ticket, and in that way they can feel proud and connected to the efforts underway across the country.”

Five National Lottery-funded projects from across the nation will have a TV ad aired on primetime TV to say thanks to players for their continued support. The aim is not only to thank those involved but also to serve as a wider reminder to the public that buying a ticket or scratchcard for any National Lottery game helps make a notable difference to society.

Each project is set to feature clips which provide insight into the work they have been carrying out to support people affected by coronavirus, with the video messaging concluding with a chorus of ‘thank yous’ from a host of different projects around the UK to thank National Lottery players for helping to make them possible.

Wendy Edge, CEO, at BASIC, added: “Without National Lottery players we wouldn’t be able to make the difference we are in our community. For more than 20 years we have been supported by the National Lottery and we’re eternally grateful.  Remember every time you play The National Lottery you are helping thousands of good causes like mine across the country to support people in need at this difficult time.”

The TV ad is set to run across TV, radio, social and digital, airing for the first time today (19 May).  The ad will appear during high-profile TV shows such as Good Morning Britain, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and First Dates.
