Mexico cancels lotteries until 31 May

The National Lottery for Public Assistance has suspended lottery draws until May 31 following a decree issued in Mexico’s Official Gazette that extends the state of health emergency throughout the country.

“Once the competent authorities issue the provisions that make it possible to resume activities, the ticket holders of the canceled draws will be able to exchange them for new ones,” said the national regulator.

The Board of Directors of the Lottery approved the “Emerging Program of Support for Traveling Ticket Sellers” in accordance with the provisions of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Thus, financial assistance will be provided to lottery vendors across the country.

The first wave of “temporary special assistance” has already been received by the 440 local lottery street vendors and by the 403 independent sellers.

In addition, the institute ordered the “delivery of 1,823 NIPIS (Individual Payment Identification Number) to Foreign Sales Organizations to be channeled to Street Ticket Sellers.” In total, 2,666 temporary special assistance has been granted to active sellers, retirees and pensioners.

According to the official statement from Rodolfo Martínez Figueroa, Subdirector of the Commercialization and Services of the National Lottery, the decision follows the original determination to suspend activities from April 29.
